What a match. What a comeback by Gael Monfils on the Philippe-Chatrier court. The 36-year-old was almost hopelessly behind against Sebastian Baez - and still won 3: 6, 6: 3, 7: 5 1: 6 and 7: 5.

The tension in the final phase could hardly be surpassed: Baez already led in the fifth set with two breaks and 4:0, but Monfils managed to equalize again. Only to immediately return his serve. But the local hero equalized again and even took a 6:5 lead. After 3:45 hours of play, Monfils had his first match point as a receiver.

Baez was able to fend off this chance. But the second attempt worked. And the fans in the stands celebrated their hero.

The next task will probably be even more difficult: With Holger Rune, a man from the extended circle of favorites is waiting for Gael Monfils. But who knows: maybe the charismatic can turn night into day again.
