Only one point was missing, then Stefanos Tsitsipas would have had to play a fifth set against Jiri Vesely. But the Czech played a bad stop at 6: 5 in the tie-break of round four, but Tsitsipas still won 9: 7. Overall, the 2021 finalist advanced to the second round with a score of 7: 5, 6: 3, 4: 6 and 7: 6 (7). There Tsitsipas plays either against Roberto Carballes Baena or the American qualifier Emilio Nava.

Hubert Hurkacz and Karen Khachanov, on the other hand, had to go the full distance. Not surprising in the case of the Pole: With David Goffin, Hurkacz had a man as an opponent on Court Simonne-Mathieu, who regularly came into the second week in Paris a few years ago. However, Hurkacz won 6:3, 5:7, 6:4, 2:6 and 6:4 and plays in round two against Tallon Griekspoor.

And Khachanov almost failed to Constant Lestienne - and the French audience in the stands of the Court Suzanne-Lenglen. Lestienne kept plaguing Khachanov with fine stops, but was then plagued again by the physical ailments that have plagued him all spring. Khachanov is now dealing with Radu Albot.
