Strong! Naomi Osaka hits the lawn in Berlin
The WTA Tour 500 tournament in Berlin has its first prominent commitment: Naomi Osaka, four-time major winner, will serve at the LTTC "Rot-Weiss" Berlin from June 11th.

Naomi Osaka was number one in the world rankings in 2019. The right-hander is currently ranked 82nd only because she largely refrained from participating in tournaments in 2021. Nevertheless, one thing is certain: The two-time winner of the Australian Open (2019, 2021) and US Open (2018, 2020) has the potential to attack at the top again. And that's exactly why she is a guest in Berlin and says: "I am very happy to compete on the excellent grass pitches of the bett1open in the unique Berlin."
Barbara Rittner, the tournament director of bett1open and also Head of Women's Tennis in the German Tennis Association (DTB), is delighted that Naomi Osaka has agreed to take part in bett1open: "Naomi in particular chooses her tournament participation with care. That's why it's a very big honor for Berlin and all tennis fans in this country in general that she will compete at the bett1open. And it is a confirmation that the best female tennis professionals in the world are being drawn back to Berlin. Talks are currently underway with many players. We will have an outstanding field of participants. But it's just great to know that Naomi Osaka is an absolute world star in Berlin right now."
Naomi Osaka's appeal goes far beyond tennis. The Japanese is a world-class personality. Despite her youth, she has become a symbol in the fight for equality and against racism.
