After more than half a year of "lockdown", the amateur tennis sport showed a strong sign of life on the last weekend of Pentecost. The "Race" is on again! To be precise, the Generali Race to Kitzbühel, where after twelve qualifying tournaments across Austria in the last week of July at the ATP clay court classic in Gamsstadt, the most successful hobby players will be showdown for a brand new CUPRA Formentor. The stations at Annenheim in the beautiful Carinthian region and Linz, where a total of 215 participants in singles and doubles were able to secure their first points in the Generali-Race to Kitzbühel, ensured a more than successful start last weekend.

It is quite possible that last weekend we saw the winner of the Generali Race to Kitzbühel 2021 at the start of the popular popular sports tournament series in the Upper Austrian capital Linz. Because - and this is statistically proven - Upper Austria's hobby tennis players are real experts when it comes to kidnapping cars in a sporty way from the Gamsstadt. In three of the four previous editions from 2017 to 2020, the winning car in the Kitzbühel tennis stadium was owned by an Upper Austrian. Thomas Glasner, Klaus Hauser and Lukas Baumgartner achieved huge fame in the Austrian popular tennis scene on Kitzbüheler Sand with their great triumphs, and were also there again at Whitsun to start with a usable one in the middle of the region at the beautifully located ASKÖ Linz Aufhof To put the result in the limelight.
Defending champion Lukas Baumgartner got it in the ITN 3-man competition in the round of 16, and the 2018 champion Klaus Hauser even failed in his opening match in the ITN 4-man competition. On four days with predominantly splendid tennis weather on the "Linzer Alm" high above the Stahlstadt, the "Auhofer" celebrated two titles "at home" by Theo Helekal in the ITN 6 competition and host Georg Hellmonseder in the ITN 3 competition. In the meantime, Jakob Rumpelsberger from Niederneukirchen marched most impressively to his first 10 race points in the ITN 5-man competition, as the 21-year-old was the only player of the weekend without losing a set. The double competition in the "final tie-break shootout mode", which the father-son duo Gruber secured in an atmospheric night session on the newly exposed center court, finally became a big hit.

320 kilometers further south, the starting shot for the Carinthian hobby tennis aces in this year's Generali Race to Kitzbühel was also given on the extended Whitsun weekend. At the TC Panaceo Annenheim on the beautiful Ossiachersee, tournament director Andi Antonitsch ensured that the tournament ran smoothly despite the rainy hours, which also went off without any problems in terms of "Corona". After the tournament, Antonitsch was satisfied that "the testing and the story of the 3G rule" was not a problem. "Local hero Markus Eder caused a sensation in sporting terms. The 29-year-old from the organizing association triumphed without giving up a single sentence and thus took over the intermediate ranking of the ITN category 7 of the "Middle Region" for the Generali Race to Kitzbühel took the lead together with Linz winner Alfred Pimminger from UTC Neuhofen. Meanwhile, the Carinthian hobby tennis cracks also raved after the double competition in the shootout mode in which all players have the same chances, and in which the fun factor reigns, should be part of the program again at the next event "the players and the tournament management agreed.
