In the first match on Thursday there was a real final: Roberto Bautista Agut against Dennis Novak - the winner of this game would move into the semi-finals of Thiem's 7. Both players had easily beaten Karen Khachanov, both had lost to Matteo Berrettini. Bautista Agut, currently number 12 in the ATP world rankings, left no doubt from the start who would leave the center court in Kitzbühel as the winner.
6-0 and 6-1 in the end the result for the Spaniard, who won the Davis Cup alongside Rafael Nadal in Madrid at the end of last year. Bautista Agut played too solidly, Novak could only exert pressure at the beginning of the second set. Bautista Agut follows Berrettini into the semi-finals on Friday.
Dominic Thiem is already the winner in the second group. Jan-Lennard Struff (who will meet Thiem in the third Thursday match) and Andrey Rublev, who gets to deal with Casper Ruud, are arguing for second semifinal place.
