Former top player Tommy Haas sees the cause of the current form crisis of German tennis star Alexander Zverev primarily in his problems with the mental attitude. "The self-confidence is gone, he struggles a lot, pulls down even further and destroys himself," said Haas der Sport Bild: "What he desperately needs is a sense of achievement."

The separation of girlfriend Olga and the smoldering lawsuit with ex-manager Patricio Apey also have an impact on Zverev's game, according to Haas. In addition, the former world ranking second demanded more tactical flexibility from the 22-year-old. "Zverev always plays relatively the same," said Haas: "He can be even more aggressive, switch to attack faster, sometimes look for a winning streak himself."

At the French Open, which starts on Sunday, Haas still believes that fifth in the world rankings Zverev can do a lot. "When he wins three matches and his confidence is back, you have to beat him again," he said. Zverev has only celebrated six wins in twelve games so far in the previous clay court season. He is currently trying to get additional match practice at short notice at the ATP tournament in Geneva.
