"I think you have the chance to win at Wimbledon this year." With these words, Toni Nadal congratulated his nephew Rafael Nadal on his twelfth French Open triumph . The 58-year-old believes in the chance of being ranked second in the world in southwest London.
"Last year he was very close," said Toni Nadal of the five-set loss in the semi-final against Novak Djokovic. "I think he had the opportunity to win and hope that it will be possible this year," said the 18-time Grand Slam winner's long-term supervisor.
However, Toni Nadal also highlighted the strong competition: "I know that Federer, Djokovic, Dominic [Thiem, Anm.] And many good players will be there. But I believe that Rafael has a possibility because it is impossible without Confidence to work well. "
French Open victory gives Nadal Boost
Like the world number one Novak Djokovic, Nadal will not contest a preparation tournament in the run-up to the third Grand Slam event of the year. It was much more important for him to come to Wimbledon in good health, emphasized the 33-year-old after his victory at the French Open.
So far Nadal has won twice in the Mecca of tennis. The Mallorcan won at Wimbledon in both 2008 and 2010. "Realistically, I had my chances in Wimbledon when I was fit and played well. Winning in Roland Garros definitely gave me a boost," says the Spaniard himself, not too bad of his chances.
