US Open starts first junior tournament in wheelchair tennis - with Austrian and German participation

At the US Open 2022, a wheelchair event will take place for the first time in the junior category at Grand Slam level. With the boys with Austrian, with the girls with German participation.

14-year-old Maximilian Taucher from the ENJO Vorarlberg wheelchair club has successfully qualified for the premiere event in Flushing Meadows. Taucher is currently ranked 4th in the junior world rankings.

He contests his first match on Thursday against the American Charlie Cooper, also 14 years old and ranked 12th. The game is scheduled as the third match after 18:00 CEST on Court 15.

The top seed for the boys is 17-year-old Ben Bartram.

Ela Porges represents the DTB

The girls also start today, but the German starter Ela Porges (15 years old) from TC Seeheim will only get involved on Friday. Porges is ranked 10th in the world junior rankings.

In round 1 she meets the top seeded American Maylee Phelps, currently number 2 in the ranking.
