What happened? After the former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko had won the first round 6: 4, the thread seemed to break with the Latvian. To be more precise, the score was 4: 3 in the second set: opponent Alja Tomljanovic played seven games in a row, managed to equalize the set and quickly moved away to 4: 0 in the decision-making round.

Jelena Ostapenko now complained of pain and took a medical time-out. An action that didn't seem to suit the Australian at all. Tomljanovic wanted to consult a supervisor and also railed against the chair referee: "You know she's lying, don't you? We all know. Do you take into account that she looks good?" Ostapenko was treated anyway - but after eleven minutes off the court, the Latvian was able to continue.
There are also consequences
At the end of the game, the temporary excitement changed little: Tomljanovic brought her lead over the finish line, won her ticket to the round of 16 with a 6-2 in set three. Now it was Ostapenko’s turn to deal out against her opponent. During the delayed handshake, Latvian Tomljanovic announced that she had "zero respect" and displayed terrible behavior. "You're the worst player on the tour," said Ostapenko.

Alja Tomljanovic, on the other hand, primarily shared in her press conference against Jelena Ostapenko: "To call myself disrespectful at the end of the match is just ridiculous. I think it's pathetic behavior by someone who is a Grand Slam champion because of children look up to her, "explained the Autralier. And Ostapenko, who was also not very "amused" about her opponent: "If I had played at 50 percent, I would have beaten her. It's so disrespectful of her. After all, any athlete can suffer an injury."
