It took Australian Ash Barty just 24 minutes to score 1-0 against her compatriot Ajla Tomljanovic. The world number one scores more than twice as many points as her opponent and gained the advantage with an undisputed 6: 1.
In the second movement, too, it was the leader of the WTA charts early on who left her mark on the movement. The 25-year-old grabbed the break to 3: 1, which Barty immediately knew to confirm. Tomljanovic managed the rebreak again, but with another break to 5: 3 Barty made the preliminary decision.
Barty now against Kerber
With 6: 1 and 6: 3, the Australian finally bought her ticket for the round of the last four. Since her three-set win in the first round against Carla Suarez Navarro, the Australian has not given up a set.
In the semifinals, Barty is now up against the former Wimbledon winner Angelique Kerber, who was just as uncomfortable in her quarter-final duel with Karolina Muchova. Karolina Pliskova and Aryna Sabalenka will contest the second semifinals.
