The weeks before Wimbledon were anything but easy for both Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova. While the Australian was struggling with a hip injury she had suffered at the French Open, the Czech was in deep form: Pliskova had lost twelve of 27 matches before the start of the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, and suffered in the two grass events off London Opening defeats.
The way the two of them made it to the final turned out to be all the more impressive. Barty and Pliskova only gave a single set in their six matches, in particular the world number one from Ipswich found her game better and better after starting difficulties and showed one of her best career achievements against Angelique Kerber in the semifinals.
