Wimbledon 2021: Emma Raducanu - Unpleasant end to a great success story
The only 18-year-old Emma Raducanu had to retire in her last 16 match against Ajla Tomljanovic because of "difficulty breathing". Nevertheless, the British woman wrote a great success story at Wimbledon.

It should have been Emma Raducanu's day. The British played her last 16 game against Ajla Tomljanovic on Court 1 Exactly at prime time, due to the rain there was no match on any other place. So everything seemed in place for the next chapter of Raducanu's great success story.
But her physical condition made Raducanu a spanner in the works on Manic Monday, to the chagrin of the numerous British fans. After an off-court medical timeout when the score was 4: 6 and 0: 3, the 18-year-old did not even return to the second-largest place in the facility, Tomljanovic was informed by the judge of her early quarter-finals.

Raducanu had previously complained about breathing problems on the pitch, but the exact cause of the trigger remained unclear on Monday. The organizers officially announced that the British had ended the game prematurely because of "breathing difficulties". An initially announced statement from the world rankings 338. In the end, it was no longer published, the tea-man had already canceled her press conference beforehand.
Raducanu misses a duel with Barty
Hopefully Raducanu is doing well given the circumstances. Before she gave up against Tomljanovic, the 18-year-old had not only delighted her compatriots at Wimbledon, on the way to the round of 16, she did not give a single set against Vitalia Diatchenko, Marketa Vondrousova and Sorana Cirstea.
World number one Ashleigh Barty would have waited in the quarter-finals as the preliminary highlight of this successful run, but even after the unpleasant end, Raducanu should hopefully look back on the tournament with satisfaction in a few days - and already make plans for an even better performance in the next year.
