Hubert Hurkacz is surprisingly in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2021. However, this was not particularly indicated in the run-up to the lawn classic.

We remember. It has been almost exactly two years since a young Pole - 22 years old - really annoyed a certain Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon, snatched the Serbian off after losing the opening set and made the game extremely open. His name: Hubert Hurkacz. The later third round defeat against the then Wimbledon winner, it represented Hurkaz's best Grand Slam result until the 2021 edition of Wimbledon.

Well, with his convincing eighth-final success over the world number two Daniil Medvedev, the Pole has impressively set this result and is now in the quarter-finals against the Swiss veteran Roger Federer. It's another highlight in a one-season roller coaster ride for Hubert Hurkacz. Because since his sensational success at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami, Hurkacz has had a protracted dry spell.

Now Federer is waiting

Since then, the Pole has only won one match on the ATP Tour, with defeats to Dominic Stricker and Botic van de Zandschulp, the 18th in the world rankings. some heavy dropouts down. But now everything is forgotten at Wimbledon, where Hurkacz only had to give two sets (against Medvedev) and made a strong exclamation mark with an impressive performance, especially when the game continued on Tuesday.

In the round of the last eight, "Hubi" Hurkacz now has to deal with eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer, who seemed to have finally reached operating temperature after his smooth success over Lorenzo Sonego. A difficult task, no question about it. But a task that the Pole is already looking forward to: "I'm looking forward to tomorrow, I can't wait to play against Roger."
