The match began typical for a game with the participation of Nick Kyrgios: anything but normal. The Australian came onto the pitch without shoes, so he had to go back to the catacombs to get it. With a delay of several minutes, the third-round cracker between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Kyrgios was able to start.

The unusual beginning seemed to have left its mark on the Canadian youngster, Auger-Aliassime started nervously, and the 20-year-old made a lot of slight mistakes in the early stages. And Nick Kyrgios? Of course, he knew how to take advantage of this, increased the nervousness at FAA with a number of antics - especially the serve from below - and quickly moved away to 5: 2.

Pain gets worse

But then a moment of shock on Church Road: Kyrgios grabbed his stomach muscles and immediately signaled that he was anything but comfortable. The Australian was initially treated and was able to move on. With 6: 2, set one moments later went to the enfant terrible - although Kyrgios could already see that the injury was leaving its mark.

An impression that was reinforced when Kyrgios was completely off the roll in the second round, especially when he was serving, by no means able to reach his normal form. And complained more and more. Kyrgios told the physio, who came back on the court in the middle of the second set, that the pain was getting worse and worse. According to Kyrgios, he would have little desire to make the injury worse and be absent for six months. So after losing round two, the Australian pulled the ripcord and shook hands with his opponent. "Sorry, brother," said Kyrgios Auger-Aliassime.

The Canadian is now waiting for the winner of the duel between Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz. A possible opponent in the quarter-final would be the formidable Italian Matteo Berrettini, who will face Ilya Ivashka in the round of 16. The two only bought their ticket for the Wimbledon round of 16 on Saturday afternoon.
