Roger Federer will also play his fourth match in the Wimbledon tournament in 2021 on Center Court, the game against Lorenzo Sonego is scheduled to be the last of the final Manic Mondays on the place where Federer has already won eight titles and narrowly lost a few more. The meeting with the Italian also sets a mark that Federer had set himself before his return to the tour business in Geneva in mid-May: He would probably need ten matches to be nearly in top form again.

Well, the arduous four-set win against Cameron Norrie was match number nine. And Federer was somewhat far from his previous top form. Although the 39-year-old could have won in three rounds if he had better exploited his chances, at the end of the day the relief about moving into the second week could not only be seen in the rutting scream after the match ball was transformed.
But good: If Sonego should fit into the ranks of the Federer defeated, then everything will be fine.

Federer at a loss against Andujar and Auger-Aliassime

The comeback began with Federer struggling with himself towards the end on ashes in Geneva against Pablo Andujar. Federer left the court shaking his head, after all there were three experiences of success at the French Open: first against Denis Istomin, then against Marin Cilic and finally against Dominik Koepfer, before the maestro considered his work on the Terre Battue as done.

In HalleWestfalen the fine-tuning for Wimbledon was supposed to take place, it was a short one. In the win against Ilya Ivashka, Federer did not know how to convince, he rated the last two sets against Félix Auger-Aliassime as insufficient according to his claims.

But there was just as little an appearance on Mallorca as there was a postponement of Wimbledon, match number seven in the series against Adrian Mannarino was not exactly splendid, rather the Frenchman fell so unhappy that Federer moved on with a technical knockout. At such moments, Richard Gasquet always gets exactly right, the balance between Federer and the Griffband-Wutzler is currently 19: 2 wins in favor of the Swiss. So then Norrie and now Sonego.
The top form should arrive on time, because the task on Monday is not without its pitfalls. The Italian is now among the top 30 players in the world and has already been successful on grass in Antalya in 2019. And then, according to the paper form, Daniil Medvedev would approach Roger Federer. The Russian world number two has apparently made peace with the lawn, after his tournament victory last week on Mallorca, now shown for the first time in Wimbledon.
