58 participations in quarter-finals at Grand Slam tournaments, 18 of them in Wimbledon alone. And by the way, Roger Federer has won the next title in the category “oldest anything” with his three-set success against Lorenzo Sonego, which is safe after a tight first run. This time in the program: oldest quarter-finalist in a major in the Open Era. The maestro will not want to buy anything from this yet, he actually seems to have a higher calling this year as well. It doesn't matter whether it's against Daniil Medvedev or Hubert Hurkacz , who don't have to finish their game until today, Tuesday.

Federer did not appear consistently brilliant against Sonego, but the longer the match lasted, the more targeted the 40-year-old stabbed his needles, pursued his balls, but did not take too much risk. To describe Federer's lecture as clarified is probably not wrong. And the eight-time Wimbledon champion also saved energy.

Federer without defeat against Medvedev and Hurkacz

Federer was again almost unreservedly certain that the audience would be well received; in his most recent game against Cameron Norrie, the local hero had also received a lot of love. The grandstands of the Center Court will be full again on Wednesday of the quarter-finals - to the limit of capacity - a fact that Roger Federer does not necessarily judge favorably. He was not convinced that the virus had already been defeated, he said in his press conference after the win against Sonego.

Federer is one of the few players who mainly use mouth and nose protection to move around on the course, so he believes that caution is advisable. The incidence in Great Britain is rising rapidly again, a spontaneous quarantine would ruin the dream of a ninth success at Wimbledon. In any case, the prospects for the upcoming task are not bad: Federer played three matches against Medvedev and won them all. There was only one comparison against Hurkacz, which also went to the maestro in the quarter-finals of Indian Wells 2019.
