Who are the favorites at Wimbledon 2022?

First of all: Novak Djokovic. Last year, the Serb won his sixth Wimbledon title in a sovereign manner. And will be the man to beat again this year. Behind them there are a large number of first pursuers: There is Matteo Berrettini, last year's finalist, and Rafael Nadal, who has already won two Grand Slam tournaments this year. Or Hubert Hurkacz, newly crowned Halle champion, and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Behind this squad of title aspirants there are a number of outsiders who can count on chances of a surprise: Nick Kyrgios and Andy Murray, for example, but also Stefanos Tsitsipas and Carlos Alcaraz should not be forgotten due to their world ranking position.

This question is already a bit more difficult for women: Iga Swiatek is still the number one title aspirant here - even if the Pole has not yet played a match on grass in 2022. After all, the French Open winner leads the women's world rankings with a respectable distance. Behind lurk Ons Jabeur and Coco Gauff, who most recently reached the final in Berlin (with the better end for the Tunisian). But Emma Raducanu - US Open winner from 2021 - or Paula Badosa and Maria Sakkari should also be on the list. Always a tip - even if the omens could be better: Serena Williams, who will play her first individual tournament in over a year, and of course Germany's number one Angelique Kerber.

Who is missing at Wimbledon 2022?

A whole series of top stars: Daniil Medvedev is not allowed to take part in Wimbledon 2022 due to the British regulation not to allow Russians and Belarusians to start, as are the compatriots of world number one Karen Khachanov, Andrey Rublev and Aslan Karatsev. Alexander Zverev will also be missing in Wimbledon, the German is still suffering from the bad injury from the Roland Garros semifinals. Dominic Thiem does not yet feel fit for the third major of the year, the Austrian wants to start in Salzburg at Challenger level instead.

For women, Naomi Osaka is sometimes the most prominent refusal. Due to an injury, the Japanese does not feel ready to compete in the classic lawn. Genie Bouchard, after all a former Wimbledon finalist, will skip the event due to the points being axed. Sofia Kenin has also canceled her start in London.

Where is Wimbledon 2022 on TV and live stream?

The third Grand Slam tournament of the year is offered in full on Sky on TV and on Sky X in the stream. The transmissions will begin on June 27th, when the first rounds for women and men will also start. A court from the qualification will be streamed daily on YouTube. Here you can find live tickers and match trackers for selected games.

What's new in 2022?

In 2022, Wimbledon will break with the tradition of not having a game on "Middle Sunday". This year, tennis will also be played on the first tournament Sunday. So the well-known "Manic Monday" falls into the water. The format has also changed: From now on, a Champions Tiebreak will be played in Wimbledon in the fifth set when the score is 6:6. Legendary matches like that between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut (2010) are a thing of the past.
