That is bitter! After his tournament wins in Stuttgart and London's Queen's Club, Matteo Berrettini came to Wimbledon as one of the favorites. And now the Italian finalist from last year, like Marin Cilic, had to cancel his participation in the classic lawn because of a corona infection. Which opens up the bottom half draw even further for Rafael Nadal, who could have faced Cilic in round four and Berrettini in the semis.

Berrettini should have opened the game on Court 1 on Tuesday against Cristian Garin, and lucky loser Elias Ymer now takes the vacant place.

Berrettini has already spent the last few days at Wimbledon and also trained on Center Court. Before appearing in the grass tournaments, he had to take a longer break because he had an operation on his hand.
