The defending champion starts as number one: Novak Djokovic leads the seeding list for the Wimbledon tournament 2022 published on Tuesday, followed by Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud. Stefanos Tsitsipas is number four ahead of Carlos Alcaraz and Félix Auger-Aliassime. The winners of the two 500s from last week follow at number seven and eight: Halle champion Hubert Hurkacz and last year's finalist and Queen's winner Matteo Berrettini.

The last of the 32 superior places goes to Argentinian Sebastian Baez, a clay court specialist. Oscar Otte just barely made it (the German is one place behind Baez in the current ATP charts), so together with Nick Kyrgios and Andy Murray, he is one of those opponents who are guaranteed not to see the seeded in the early rounds on the other want to see the web page.

For a few years, Wimbledon has also been strictly based on the world rankings. If the results on grass had been included, the seeding list would have been different.

Serena Williams as a nightmare lot

On the women's side, the same applies in particular to comeback Serena Williams, who will celebrate her return at a Grand Slam tournament after a break of almost a year. But the number one in the world, Iga Swiatek, who won Wimbledon in 2018 at the junior level, starts as the favourite.

With Angelique Kerber, number 15 is also a German player. Kerber had reached the semifinals in 2021 and failed due to the eventual winner Ashleigh Barty. The Australian has now ended her career.
