Dennis Novak was warned about his second-round match at Wimbledon 2022, even though he went into the game on Court 16 with a 1-0 record against Jason Kubler. Because Kubler had won in round one against local hero Daniel Evans in three sets, Novak needed one more against Facundo Bagnis.

The match started well from the Australian's point of view, he didn't burn anything on his own serve and won the first two sets after an early break. In the third round, however, it was initially Novak who, as a setback, was able to develop an advantage for the first time. However, Kubler immediately compensated for the 0:2 deficit.

Rain interrupts the third set

The supposed decision came in the ninth game, in which Kubler was able to convert his third breakball to 5:4. Before facts could be created, however, a rain shower suddenly set in. The players had to leave the field and the tarpaulin was raised. At almost half past eight local time, the decision was made to continue the match on Friday.

Novak is the only Austrian in the main draw: Dominic Thiem had waved him off a few days before the tournament started, Jurij Rodionov, Sebastian Ofner, Gerald Melzer and Lucas Miedler had failed in qualifying.
