World number one Iga Swiatek opens against Jana Fett and will try to celebrate her 36th match win in a row. That she can walk on grass? Shown her in 2018 when she won the junior edition. Co-favorite Ons Jabeur plays against Miriam Bjorklund.
Angelique Kerber meets Kristina Mladenovic, formerly in the top 10, but now only ranked 118th.
Exciting from a British point of view: Emma Raducanu, last year in the round of 16, opened against Alison van Uytvanck.
Feasible draw for Serena Williams
The placement of Serena Williams was eagerly awaited: She is unseeded and could therefore have met one of the top seeds. She was drawn against Harmony Tan (WTA No. 113). 32nd seed Sara Sorribes Tormo could wait in Round 2. After that, things could get exciting with potential meetings against last year's finalist Karolina Pliskova and then against Cori Gauff. She could only meet Swiatek in the semi-finals.
A difficult task awaits Simona Halep, Wimbledon champion 2019, at the start, she has to face Karolina Muchova. Two-time winner Petra Kvitova meets Jasmine Paolini.
Andrea Petkovic meets Viktorija Golubic, one can hope for a fine little drama game at the beginning with the encounter between Alizé Cornet and Yulia Putintseva.
Other games with German participation: Tatjana Maria plays against Astra Sharma, Tamara Korpatsch against local hero Heather Watson, Jule Niemeier meets Xiyu Wang and Nastasja Schunk against Mikhaela Buzarnescu.
