John Isner is in round three after a four-set win over Andy Murray

For Andy Murray, the round of 64 at Wimbledon was an inglorious premiere from two points of view: on the one hand, the Scot had to admit defeat against John Isner for the first time in the ninth duel and, on the other hand, it was the first time for the two-time WImbledon champion that it put a defeat in the second round.

However, there was no herb against Isner on this Wednesday evening. The American served flawlessly throughout the match, leaving Murray no air to breathe. In the end, Isner triumphed 6: 4, 7: 6 (4), 6: 7 (3) and 6: 4.

Strong nerves

In the first set it was an early break that should tip the scales in the American's favour. Just in that service game in which Murray's serve worked suboptimal, Isner showed himself in impressive return condition. And got the decisive break.

Round two was balanced for long stretches, although Murray had little to do against Isner's extremely strong serve. Finally, in the tie-break, the Scot had to accept two mini-breaks - also due to Isner's great setbacks - the American served safely.

Isner manages a decisive break

In the third set, the American looked like he could make the lucky punch for a long time. Murray, however, showed nerves of steel, followed up with his own serve under pressure and increased the number of strokes in the tie-break. And got the short decision with 7:3.

So while Murray looked like he could turn the game around in this match, Isner struck out of nowhere - and got the break to 3: 2. Isner, who always found sometimes absurd surcharges in tight situations, shouldn't let that take him away. In the round of 32, the American now meets Jannik Sinner, who got the better of Mikael Ymer in four sets.
