Wimbledon 2022: Nick Kyrgios - "I'm one of the most important people in tennis"

Nick Kyrgios was happy with himself after his convincing three-set win against Filip Krajinovic. And settled a few bills in the press conference afterwards.

This time there was no sushi for Nick Kyrgios, his performance against Filip Krajinovic on Court 2 on Thursday was over too quickly for that. On Tuesday, however, after four hours of high-performance sport against Paul Jubb, calorie supplies were urgently needed. But of course none of the reporters present at Kyrgios' press conference could understand that. The Australian explained very relaxed, satisfied with himself, but also quite angry towards the "media" ex cathedra.

Kyrgios was noticeably dissatisfied with the coverage following his round one win (as well as his performance, he reiterated). That he was under investigation into the spitting incident in the match against Jubb? Don't interest him. "I don't care at all if there's an investigation, if I'm being brutally honest. I know what I bring to the sport. I'm one of the most important people in our sport."

Tsitsipas and Kyrgios - two of the biggest stars in sports

He was still in the Wimbledon tournament. By the way, only in singles - he didn't want to compete in pair skating with Thanasi Kokkinakis after all. The focus is on the single. But: He will be there at the ATP Finals in Turin. With buddy Thanasi, who had bitten his teeth on Novak Djokovic on Wednesday.

His next opponent? Stefanos Tsitsipas. Probably on one of the two large, covered courts. "I think we both deserve that right. We are two of the biggest stars in sport. Hopefully we can both show our best tennis, then it will certainly be great to watch."

Can he win the tournament? Then Kyrgios became a little cautious. "I take it every day. Tomorrow I'm off. I will train well, see who my next opponent is and prepare for all possible challenges. That's all."
