The British can still hope for a home win at the Wimbledon tournament in 2022. Because Cameron Norrie moved into the quarter-finals of the grass classic with an unchallenged 6: 4, 7: 5 and 6: 4 against Tommy Paul. Norrie only briefly had problems in the second set when his opponent made the rebreak to make it 5:5. But Paul gave up his serve right away. The third act was then all about Norrie.
The game between David Goffin and Frances Tiafoe, on the other hand, developed into an Instant Classic. Goffin won 7-6 (3), 5-7, 5-7, 6-4 and 7-5. The final phase in particular could hardly be surpassed in terms of excitement: With the score of 5: 5 in the fifth set, Tiafoe was unable to convert two match balls. Goffin did better a few moments later and immediately converted his first match point.
Norrie and Goffin meet in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. The two have played each other once so far: in Barcelona in 2021, Goffin had to give up in the second set. The last title by a Briton was in 2016: At that time Andy Murray won the final against Milos Raonic.
