The 128 grids for the Wimbledon tournament will have some gaps. Especially with the women.

As is well known, Daniil Medvedev will be absent from Wimbledon 2022

Let's leave out Alexander Zverev , Sebastian Korda and a few others who cannot take part in the 2022 Wimbledon tournament due to physical complaints. There was force majeure involved, such as an unfortunate fall in the semifinals at the French Open a few weeks ago. But what does the bloodletting look like that both men and women have to complain about because of the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes from what is still the most important tennis tournament in the world? Quantitative and qualitative?

According to the current ranking, only five of the top 100 men will be missing due to being uninvited by the AELTC in London: Daniil Medvedev , Andrey Rublev , Karen Khachanov , Aslan Karatsev and Ilya Ivashka. Will this distort the tournament? A little sure. Because even if none of the named had been counted among the title contenders, an early meeting with service cannon Khachanov would not have been fun for anyone. And Daniil Medvedev is number one in the world after all.

Sabalenka could have been dangerous

For women, the situation is a little different. First of all, eleven of the top 100 players in the WTA charts are absent from Wimbledon (although Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova would not have played anyway due to injury). And there are already a few women who could have been expected to have a deep run into the second week. Daria Kasatkina, for example, who recently showed up at the French Open with the semi-finals. And currently in Bad Homburg proves that the lawn suits her.

Aryna Sabalenka should also have been kept in mind. The Belarusian often fights more with herself than with her opponents (keyword: serve!), but when she's running (keyword: serve!!) Sabalenka is dangerous for every opponent. Which therefore also applies to Veronika Kudermetova or Ekaterina Alexandrova.

The fact that there are no world ranking points for the participants in Wimbledon 2022 may be a small consolation for those excluded. But does not replace the opportunity to serve at one of tennis' iconic venues.
