The turnaround from Bad Homburg to Wimbledon, it did n't seem to work that well for Angelique Kerber at first: The German was quickly confronted with a 3-0 deficit against Nina Stojanovic, but then got better and better and won the first set still with 6: 4.

In the second section, the Kiel woman didn't let anything burn - after 84 minutes of play, Kerber fixed the ultimately sovereign 6: 4 and 6: 3 success thanks to a good forehand. The 33-year-old now meets Sara Sorribes Tormo or Ana Konjuh.
Kerber is the first German to reach the second round at Wimbledon in 2021. Mona Barthel lost to Lin Zhu 7: 6 (2), 3: 6 and 3: 6, Laura Siegemund had already lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova on Monday with 1: 6 and 3: 6. Andrea Petkovic's match was interrupted at the score of 5: 4 and 40:40 from the Darmstadt's point of view.
