Tiafoe won 6: 4, 6: 4 and 6: 3 and caused a big surprise on day 1 of the Wimbledon tournament in 2021.

The US-American, who so far only made it to the third round at Wimbledon in 2018, was by far the clearly better player who showed off a lot - while Tsitsipas seemed to be completely beside him and revealed big problems, especially on the backhand. The Greek, currently number 4 in the world, had skipped a preparatory tournament on turf, although he is not exactly a grass lover. Only in 2018 he made it to the round of 16 at Wimbledon. /

Tiafoe, however, had already proven his strong form on the green in the past week: He had won the Challenger tournament in Nottingham and then reached the quarter-finals at the classic in Queen's.

Against Tsitsipas, he scored 43 winners with only 22 mistakes - strong!

Tsitsipas is faring like Wawrinka and Thiem

For Tiafoe, currently number 57 in the ATP ranking, the victory over Tsitsipas is the greatest of his career so far. He had previously won against four top ten players, one player from the top five had not yet been there.

Crazy statistics: For the fourth time in a row, the reigning French Open finalist was eliminated in the first round at Wimbledon, after Stan Wawrinka (2017) and Dominic Thiem (2018 and 2019).

In round 2, Tiafoe now meets the winner of the game between Roberto Carballes Baena and Vasek Pospisil.

Previously, defending champion Novak Djokovic had already made it into the second round. After problems in round one, things went smoothly for Djoker in the end. One of his possible semi-final opponents is now eliminated with Tsitsipas.
