Wimbledon: Jule Niemeier wins first Grand Slam match

Jule Niemeier won the first Grand Slam match of her tennis career at Wimbledon.

The 22-year-old from Dortmund prevailed against the Chinese Wang Xiyu 6: 1, 6: 4 and advanced to the second round. There, on Wednesday, Niemeier meets either Anett Kontaveit from Estonia, who is second seeded, or Bernarda Pera from the USA.

Niemeier is one of six German players in the Wimbledon field. At the French Open, she had recently qualified for the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time.
