The climber of the last few months won 6: 1, 6: 2, 6: 1 against compatriot Peter Gojowczyk and thus meets the winner of the game between local hero Jay Clarke (ATP No. 156) and qualifier Christian Harrison (ATP No. 251).

Otte was in the top 100 in the world at the beginning of the year and in the top 50 with strong performances on grass (semi-finals in Stuttgart and Halle). In Wimbledon, after a few cancellations, most recently by Gael Monfils, he was in 32nd place.

Against Gojowczyk he dominated from start to finish, only the second serve got stuck with ten double faults - many for him and in a manageable long match.

Maximilian Marterer had previously reached the second round: he beat Aljaz Bedene 4:6, 7:5, 6:4 and 7:5. Next opponent is Frances Tiafoe.
