Mischa Zverev (Hamburg) continued the bankruptcy series of German tennis professionals on the first day of Wimbledon. The 31-year-old was defeated 2: 6, 4: 6, 4: 6 against the Belgian Steve Darcis at the start of the Grand Slam tournament. Previously, Peter Gojowczyk (Munich) and Cedrik-Marcel Stebe (Mühlacker) as well as the women Mona Barthel (Neumünster) and Anna-Lena Friedsam (Neuwied) had lost their first round matches.

Gojowzcyk also lost to Roberto Bautista-Agut in the fourth attempt, this time with 3: 6, 2: 6 and 3: 6. Stebe only had a second set against the American serve artist Reilly Opelka, losing 3: 6, 6: 7 (4) and 1: 6.

A total of seven meetings with German participation were scheduled for the classic lawn in London on Monday. In the afternoon, Alexander Zverev (Hamburg / No. 6) and Philipp Kohlschreiber (Augsburg), who had to compete against defending champion Novak Djokovic (Serbia / No. 1) in round one, contested their opening matches.
