In singles, Roberta Vinci wrote a not so small chapter of tennis history in 2015. In the semi-finals of the US Open, she sensationally beat Serena Williams and messed up the American's calendar Grand Slam. The fact that Vinci then lost to her compatriot Flavia Penetta in the final does not take away from the story's appeal. Vinci was even more brilliant on the WTA tour in doubles: the now 39-year-old has won 25 championships in her career. The most important ones alongside Sara Errani, namely five titles in Grand Slam tournaments.

Vinci, who ended her career as a professional tennis player in 2018 and led the WTA doubles world rankings for a total of 110 weeks, brings her expertise in doubles to the World Padel Tour. At the start of the season in Miami, the Italian made it into the main draw with compatriot Giulia Sussarello from pre-qualification. Which put Vinci in the world rankings at the current rank of 130.

There is still a long way to go to the top, led by Alejandra Salazar Bengoechea and Gemma Triay Bons, two Spaniards. Salazar and Triay won the tour's opening event in Miami and will be favorites again this week in Reus, Spain. Roberta Vinci is still missing there in the first tableau. For qualifiers, however, four places are provided in the 28 grid.
