Two happy Argentines in Spain: Sanyo Gutierrez and Augustin Tapia

It should come as no surprise that Sanyo Gutierrez feels at home in Spain. Gutierrez runs Juan Carlos Ferrero's padel department at the JC Equelite Academy near Alicante. From that point of view, it was almost a home game for the Argentine in Reus, the birthplace of the famous architect Antoni Gaudi in southern Catalonia. And so Gutierrez and his compatriot Augustin Tapia just won the second tournament of the World Padel Tour 2022.

At the first stop in Miami, 19-year-old Arturo Coello had secured a small chapter in padel history as the youngest champion on the tour. However, Coello failed in Reus with his partner Fernando Belasteguin in the second lap.

For Sanyo Gutierrez and Augustin Tapia, on the other hand, things ran like clockwork throughout the entire week of the tournament, especially the smooth 6:2 and 6:2 against the pair Alejandro Galan and Juan Lebron, who were in first place. With the success in Reus, Gutierrez and Tapia also took the lead in the annual standings.

Triay and Salazar also win second women's tournament

Among women, Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar became repeat offenders. As in Miami, the two won in Reus - and again against Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez. The endgame developed into a veritable marathon that took more than three hours of gameplay to complete. Until Triay and Salazar won 6:3, 6:7 6) and 6:1.

Roberta Vinci, the US Open finalist in tennis, who had reached the main draw on the World Padel Tour in Miami for the first time, had to accept her elimination in Reus in the qualification.

The World Padel Tour is now staying in Spain: from March 20, 2022, the third staion of this season will continue.
