Swiatek was of course the big star of the Berlin grass tournament (June 11-19), now a shoulder injury got in the way for a second appearance in Germany this year (after the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, which she won). /

Swiatek's exit - admittedly a bitter disappointment for Berlin, especially as it will be interesting to see whether the Pole will be able to take her great form (35 wins in a row!) onto the pitch. Most recently, Swiatek won at Roland Garros.

However, it is known that she can play on grass: in 2018 she won the junior competition at Wimbledon.

Kontaveit, Badosa, Keys and Osaka also cancel in Berlin

In addition to Swiatek, Anett Kontaveit (currently WTA No. 2), Paula Badosa (WTA No. 3), Madison Keys and Naomi Osaka have also canceled their appearance in Berlin in the past few days. Osaka has problems with the Achilles tendon and is currently struggling with underwater jogging. A wildcard had been reserved for her in Berlin.

Nevertheless, five Sop 10 players in Berlin at the start

The field of participants at the bett1open is still strong, despite the elimination of the top three players in the world.

Ons Jabeur is now number 1 in the federal capital, ahead of Maria Sakkari, Aryna Sabalenka, Karolina Pliskova and Garbine Muguruza - so you still have five top ten players on board.

From a German point of view, Andrea Petkovic is at the start - due to the cancellations, she is now directly in the main draw and has released a wildcard.
