WTA Berlin: Number one Ons Jabeur defeats Cori Gauff

Ons Jabeur wins the semi-final duel against Cori Gauff in Berlin

It was eagerly awaited, the second semi-final duel at the WTA Tour 500 event in Berlin. In the end, the nominally favored Tunisian Ons Jabeur defeated the 18-year-old American Cori Gauff in straight sets 7:6 (4), 6:2. The number one of the grass tournament in the German capital now meets in the final against the Swiss Belinda Bencic, who in the early afternoon defeated the second-seeded Greek Maria Sakkari in a heated battle lasting more than three hours 6: 7 (6), 6: 4, was able to defeat 6:4.

At first, the North African was anything but easy with the powerful game of the current world number 13. from Delray Beach and was quickly trailing 3-0. Gradually, however, Jabeur consolidated her game with that of her opponent, quickly equalized to 3:3 and worked out the quick decision in the first set, which she was able to decide for herself with four. In the second set, the will of the North American was broken, after a total of 1:17 hours of play, the number four in the world used her second match point.
