The WTA finals will not take place in Shenzhen as planned this year

Probably due to the persistently difficult situation surrounding the global COVID-19 pandemic, the WTA tour will not be in China in 2021 either. This has been a done deal since Monday after the WTA announced in an official broadcast that the annual finals, the Porsche WTA Finals, would be postponed from Shenzhen to Guadalajara. In the coming season, the event for the eight best players of the year is set to return to China. And stay there until at least 2030.

In the previous year, the WTA finals had been canceled due to COVID-19, only the short-term stepping in of the Mexican tournament organizers made the staging in 2021 possible. The chairman of the WTA was accordingly grateful in a broadcast: "I would like to thank the organizers of the tournament in Guadalajara and the Octagon for their commitment in organizing the event this season and for helping the WTA, another exciting chapter in the history of the WTA Finals. "

Guadalajara beckons mega upgrade

We are already full of anticipation to bring the showcase tournament to such a vibrant city as Guadalajara, after all the second largest city in Mexico, this year. In addition to a large number of sporting and cultural events that are held in the city of around 1.5 million people, the WTA tour will also be a guest in Guadalajara in March with a WTA 250 event.

The dimensions that the WTA Finals would have in terms of playful quality are of course much larger, after all, only the eight best players of the season are permanently involved in the year-end event. According to the current status, Ash Barty, Aryna Sabalenk, Barbora Krejcikova, Karolina Pliskova, Iga Swiatek, Maria Sakkari, Naomi Osaka and Garbine Muguruza would be at the start in Guadalajara.
