Great start for Aryna Sabalenka at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth: The 24-year-old celebrated a hard-fought 3: 6, 7: 6 (5) and 7: 5 win over the "Nancy Richey Group" on the first day of the game World number two Ons Jabeur. Sabalenka caught up from a 3-5 deficit in the tie-break and then made up a 2-4 deficit in the third set.

Maria Sakkari also celebrated a victory in Texas on Monday (local time). The Greek defeated Jessica Pegula 7: 6 (6) and 7: 6 (4) in the first singles game of this year's WTA Finals. On the second day of the group match there will be duels Sabalenka against Sakkari and Jabeur against Pegula.

In doubles, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova as well as Yifan Xu and Zhaoxuan Yang clinched opening wins. Krejcikova/Siniakova beat Desirae Krawczyk and Demi Schuurs 6:3 and 6:4, Xu/Yang defeated Cori Gauff and Jessica Pegula 6:4, 4:6 and 10:7.
