Two previously unbeaten teams will meet in the doubles final of the WTA Finals in Fort Worth: the pairings Barbora Krejcikova / Katerina Siniakova and Veronika Kudermetova / Elise Mertens will fight for the title in the women's season-ending tournament on Monday (local time).
While the Czech number one pair defeated Lyudmyla Kichenok (Ukraine) / Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) in the semifinals after a hard-fought first round 7:6 (5), 6:2, the Russian-Belgian duo swept eighth-seeded Desirae Krawczyk (USA) and Demi Schuurs (Netherlands) easily left the pitch 6-1, 6-1 in front of almost empty spectators.
Siniakova doubles number one of the year again
With a win in the finals, Krejcikova and Siniakova could be crowned winners of the WTA Finals for the second time in a row. Last year the two Czechs defeated Su-Wei Hsieh and Mertens in two sets 6:3 and 6:4 in the final in Guadalajara. The 30-year-old from Flanders would have the opportunity to take revenge - albeit with a different partner.
Even before the final it is clear that in the individual doubles ranking Siniakova will end the season as the clear number one for the second time in a row.
