Kontaveit set another exclamation mark at the end of the year in the second group game with her 6: 4, 6: 0 win over Karolina Pliskova. The Estonian had recently won the tournaments in Ostrava, Moscow and Cluj-Napoca - with only one set loss in total.

In Guadalajara, she didn't give Pliskova a chance either, with initial problems she fended off three breakballs from her opponent, after her lead at the end of the set she didn't give up a game. Pliskova had won the previous three encounters between the two.

In the second group game of the day Garbine Muguruza celebrated a victory over Barbora Krejcikova - 2: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4 was the end of the game for the Spaniard, who thus retained the chances of progressing after her opening defeat against Pliskova.

This also applies to Pliskova, who also stands in a won and a lost match. And even for Krejcikova, who, after losing two games, should have won the final duel against Pliskova.
