Kvitova will be particularly annoyed by the first sentence here: she was leading early with a break, but then got a 4: 4 equalizer. In tiebreak Osaka was then the constant, Kvitova pulled alone four forward hands to finally clear 7: 1.
In turn two, both players were in the lead with a break, while in the end Kvitova broke against a somewhat unnerved Osaka to equalize the set. In the third set Osaka came back to the lead early, Kvitova came again, but not for a long time.
In the second game of the red group, Ashleigh Barty and Belinda Bencic meet.
The WTA Finals will be held in Shenzhen for the first time in 2019, earning a record $ 14 million in prize money.
