The supposedly best cards currently has Serena Williams. The US American is in the Race to Shezhen in eighth place, the last eligible to participate in the A-World Cup. Unlike their two rivals, the 23-time individual Grand Slam winner this week but will be at any tournament at the start.

Kiki Bertens and Belinda Bencic, on the other hand, will both play at the event in Moscow. Dutch rider Bertens ranks ninth in the race and is just 65 points behind Williams. In a quarter-finals, the 27-year-old would get credited 100 points, a tournament victory in Moscow brings 470 additional counters.

Direct duel in the semifinals?

Bencic has to make up 165 points on Bertens in Moscow. Interesting: In the semifinals, it could come to a direct meeting of the two Shenzhen aspirants. Should Benic win a possible direct duel in the semifinals, they would also have to win the final for a participation in the finals.

So far, Ashleigh Barty, Karolina Pliskova, Simona Halep, Bianca Andreescu, Naomi Osaka, Petra Kvitova and Elina Svitolina qualified for the WTA Finals. The A-WM will start in the Chinese city of Shenzhen on October 27th.
