Carlos Alcaraz had no problems with Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko in the second round of the Madrid Open

More than a strong start for Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard, seeded second in Madrid, gave Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko no chance in the second round match of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid, defeating him 6:2, 6:1 in just 68 minutes. His next opponent will be Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild, who knocked out 28th-seeded Lorenzo Musetti with two 6:4 scores.

The small question mark regarding Alcaraz's form has thus disappeared faster than a forehand shot from the world number two hits the opponent's court. The man from the Murcia region had to withdraw from the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Barcelona last week after sustaining an injury to his right hitting arm at the Masters event in Monte Carlo.

Hurckaz is Altmaier’s next opponent

What else happened today in the men's competition? Andrey Rublev had a lot of fun in the first match of the day at the Arantxa Sanchez Stadium with the Argentinian qualifier Facundo Bagnis and was in great spirits in his 6:1, 6:4 victory. It remains to be seen whether the Russian will be as relaxed in his third round match against the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

At the three-seed, the event's number eight, Hubert Hurkacz, got on the nerves of Briton Jack Draper with 6:1, 7:5. "Hubi" is thus the next opponent of Daniel Altmaier, who gave the Frenchman Arthur Fils no chance with 6:2, 6:3. The Canadian Denis Shapovalov showed a small sign of life on Court 4: The former top ten player defeated the tournament's number 26, the Argentinian Thomas Etcheverry, with 7:6 (3), 6:3.

Here is the individual table in Madrid.
