The organizers in Stuttgart want to stick to their date

It has been clear since Thursday: The French Open will take place a week later than originally planned in 2021 . The Grand Slam event will now take place from May 30th to June 13th 2021, which will collide with the tournament on the Weissenhof. "Roland Garros is going it alone," said tournament director Edwin Weindorfer to the SID: "You have to accept it that way, we won't change the week because of that."

They want to stick to the planned period from June 7th to 13th and evaluate the new situation in the next 48 hours with the ATP and the tournament partners. The Grand Slam Board had previously announced that the lawn season would be shortened by one week this year . According to this announcement, the tournament in Stuttgart would have to look for a new place in the ATP calendar.

Flexibility is required

In Stuttgart, however, you don't want to think about that. All the prerequisites for holding the tournament have been created. "We firmly believe that we will still get a good field," said Weindorfer.

Among other things, the plans include appearances by Germany's number one Alexander Zverev, who could not play in Stuttgart if he reached the quarter-finals in Paris. Weindorfer and his team are now working on being able to react as flexibly as possible to the results in Paris when putting together the starting field.
