In the first round, Murray had made short work of only 17-year-old Imran Sibille in the 6-0 and 6-1 success, celebrating his first individual victory since his return on the tour. In the second round, Norbert Gombos faced a much bigger challenge.

But the three-time Grand Slam winner also mastered these with flying colors. Murray dropped the world rankings-115. the 6: 3 and 6: 4 victory also had few chances and deservedly entered the round of 16 of the event taking place in the Rafa Nadal Academy. In this the 32-year-old meets the Italian Matteo Viola.

Greetings from Nadal

After his opening win at the US Open, Nadal greeted the British: "All the best. Apart from the fact that Andy is playing at my home, it's nice to see him again in singles." The Spaniard even had a small surprise for Murray: "I wrote to him a few days ago and gave him the number of one of my best friends. Now he can take the boat if he wants to get out." Whether Murray took advantage of this offer is not handed down. However, it is clear that not only the Scotsman feels good in Mallorca. With Jurij Rodionov and Lucas Miedler, two Austrians also made it into the round of 16. Rodionov even eliminated top seed Peter Gojowczyk.
