"It is a great honor for me. Not so many can do it. I am incredibly grateful. I will continue to do my best to give my support to German tennis and youth," said Kerber.

This places the former world number one in an illustrious circle of German tennis greats. Boris Becker and Steffi Graf, among others, previously received the same award as the woman from Kiel.

Tournament in Bad Homburg until 2021

Kerber (32) is ambassador for the tournament in Bad Homburg, which will serve as a dress rehearsal for Wimbledon in the future. Originally, it was supposed to celebrate its premiere in June this year, but due to the corona pandemic, the first edition was moved to June 20-26, 2021.

In addition to Kerber, Andrea Petkovic from Darmstadt will also be at the start next year. Julia Görges from Bad Oldesloe, Wimbledon semi-finalist from 2018, had previously given her approval.
