WTA Rome: Naomi Osaka and Tatjana Maria win
Naomi Osaka and Tatjana Maria have advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome.

Naomi Osaka easily reached the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. The four-time Grand Slam winner won her opening match against Clara Burel 7:6 (2) and 6:1. On Thursday, the Japanese will face 19th seed Marta Kostyuk.
"I played much better in the second set. I hope that in my match tomorrow I can learn from the mistakes I made today and implement things better," Osaka said after the match.

After Osaka, the 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin was able to celebrate a 6:3 and 6:2 victory against local hero Lucia Bronzetti on Center Court. Tatjana Maria also had reason to celebrate on Wednesday. The 36-year-old beat Linda Fruhvirtova 7:6 (5), 3:6 and 6:2 and will now face Daria Kasatkina. Angelique Kerber had already reached the second round on Tuesday .
