Angelique Kerber cancels participation in Montreal - not even Barty
Angelique Kerber has withdrawn her participation in the WTA tournament in Montreal / Canada (August 9th to 15th).

The three-time Grand Slam winner needs more time after her injury before returning to the court. Kerber had previously had to cancel her participation in the Tokyo Olympics due to an injury.
World number one Ashleigh Barty (Australia) and US star Venus Williams will not be in Montreal either. "My team and I have made the decision to retire to have a few weeks to rest and recover from the stressful program of the last month," said Wimbledon winner Barty. Williams also canceled for health reasons.
As a wildcard replacement for Williams, the two-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep moves up into the field of participants. "We are of course disappointed that Ashleigh, Angelique and Venus will not be there this year," said tournament director Eugene Lapierre: "On the other hand, we are very happy that we will have Simona as our guest in Montreal again."
