The Australian world number one Ashleigh Barty has ended her season prematurely and is therefore also foregoing the WTA Finals in Guadalajara / Mexico (November 8th to 14th). As the Wimbledon winner announced on Saturday, she gives priority to recovery and wants to "concentrate on having the best possible preparation" for the start of the season in her home country with the Australian Open (January 17th to 30th) as the first highlight.

"Given the challenges of returning to Queensland and the quarantine regulations, I'm not ready to jeopardize my January preparation," Barty continued. In 2019 she won the WTA Finals, the final tournament of the eight best players of the season.

Despite the cancellation of the WTA Finals, it is already clear that Barty will finish the current season as the first in the world list. She had already succeeded in doing this in the past two years.

This season Barty celebrated five tournament victories, including at Wimbledon. She has not been used since her third round at the US Open. The 25-year-old had already withdrawn for the Billie Jean King Cup (November 1st to 6th) in Prague.
