Barty won 57 matches in her best year on the tour - 13 of them after a set gap. "I think that's an Australian quality, " Barty told AAP . "We all want to be recognized as fighters."

When the career was over, she wanted to be remembered as someone who was valued by her colleagues, left everything on the pitch and started the game with the right attitude, said the world number one.

Perhaps the most important mental achievement in 2019 was Barty in the French Open semi-final against Amanda Anisimova. She had already led 5-0 in the first round and then gave the set in the tie-break; In the second round Anisimova was already 3: 0 in front, before Barty played six games in a row and equalized according to sets. Also in the decision-making process she made an early break against herself, moved into the final and won the first Grand Slam title in her career.
