"I've told a lot of people that Ash will win at Wimbledon too." These are the words of Nick Kyrgios that the Australian bad boy addressed to the media during the Wimbledon tournament in 2019. Well, the 25-year-old was ultimately wrong with this prediction - Barty was eliminated in the round of 16 against Alison Riske.

Nonetheless, making it into the last 16 was the biggest success of the world number one at the lawn classic in London to date. In 2012 and 2017 she was eliminated in the first round, in 2018 Barty was able to win at least one game. Between 2012 and 2017, the Australian - also due to her cricket break - no longer had a main draw appearance.

Triumph in the junior competition

Still, one thing is certain for Barty: she wants the Wimbledon title. "My dream is to win at Wimbledon. Without a doubt," said the 24-year-old in an interview with ABC . "It took me a long time to dare to say that. But I want to. I want to work towards this goal," continued Barty.

A look at 2011 proves that Barty feels at home on grass despite the expandable balance sheet in the women's competition. At that time, the Australian was able to secure the title in the junior competition. "That was special, but it only gave me a taste of what it really is like," said the Australian.

After this year's cancellation of the Wimbledon tournament, Barty will not have the chance to fulfill her dream until 2021 at the earliest. Before that, the French Open winner of the previous year wants to win more titles if possible - but at least at the US Open it will not come of it. Due to the corona pandemic, Barty will not start in New York .
