The tennis year 2021 had started so well for Jannik Sinner, who won the title at one of the preparatory tournaments for the Australian Open in Melbourne and made it into the final of the local ATP Masters 1000 tournament a little later in Miami. At the moment, however, the work of the 20-year-old South Tyrolean is not going smoothly. In Atlanta, after a bye in round two against Christopher O'Connell, Sinner went bankrupt. The Australian qualifiers won 7: 6 (7) and 6: 4 and will play against John Isner in the quarterfinals.

The US veteran, in turn, prevailed against his compatriot Jack Sock with exactly the same result. Isner is sixth in Atlanta, Sinner started the race as number two. After his success, Isner announced on the court that he would soon be a father for the third time.

And for Nick Kyrgios, the individual competition is already history. After the entertaining opening win against Kevin Anderson there was nothing for Kyrgios to gain against Cameron Norrie. The Briton, champion in Los Cabos last week, won 6-1 and 6-4. The number one in the ATP Tour 250 tournament in the US state of Georgia was eliminated yesterday: Milos Raonic lost out to the up-and-coming American Brandon Nakashima.

In doubles, things have been going better for Jannik Sinner and Nick Kyrgios so far: Sinner is already in the semi-finals with Reilly Opelka, Kyrgios can follow suit with Jack Sock in the night from Friday to Saturday.
